Palmerton to buy pumper for fire department

Palmerton Fire Department will have an addition to its fleet of vehicles.

Borough council on a 5-0 vote on Thursday agreed to order a pumper through KME of Nesquehoning in the amount of $672,500.

Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell abstained from the vote. Councilman Kris Hoffner was absent.

As part of its approval, council authorized borough Manager Donna McGarry to seek financing for the project.

“Our fire department has been probably close to a year preparing specs and reaching out to manufacturers for pricing,” McGarry said. “They found the best vehicle that suited their needs and actually was the best price.”

McGarry said the fire department likely won’t take possession of the pumper until about a year from now.

In a related matter, council authorized McGarry to sell the fire department’s 1978 American LaFrance firetruck.
