Local Roundup: Results from April 9

The Northwestern baseball and softball teams both picked up victories on Friday.

Weatherly won its third straight in softball action, and Lehighton posted a tennis triumph.

BASEBALL

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Dylan Witkowski starred on the mound and at the plate to lead Northwestern to a 12-1 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Witkowski allowed just three hits and an unearned run in his five innings of work. He walked one and struck out five. With a bat in his hands, he delivered two doubles and knocked in four runs.

The Tigers (5-0; 4-0) also received three hits and four runs scored from Nick Henry, while Justin Holmes added a pair of hits, three runs and two RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Carter Welch contributed two hits, both doubles, and three runs, with RJ Zack chipping in a pair of hits and a run.

Panther Vy.-N. Schuylkill

North Schuylkill made an early lead hold up in a 3-1 non-league win over Panther Valley.

Josh Chowansky (RBI), Dylan Dietz and Jacob Hall (RBI) had hits for the Spartans (4-1), who led 2-0 after the first. Logan Burke struck out seven without allowing a walk and surrendering just three hits without an earned run.

Johnny Byers, Michael Pascie (RBI) and Cody Orsulak collected hits for the Panthers (4-1). Stephen Hood was also strong on the mound, striking out five with one walk and only three hits allowed and no earned runs.

Weatherly-MMI Prep

MMI surged past Weatherly for a 13-3 non-league win.

David Castro was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for MMI, which trailed 3-1 after the first inning. Robert Rinaldi went 3-for-3, while Marcus Danchision, Chance Eyerly and Colin Williams (two doubles) all had a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored. Carson Valkusky hit a home run and finished with two RBIs.

Nathan Tripp, Guiseppe Covello (RBI), Ben Ramirez, Jake Solonoski (RBI) and Trevor Lowman had hits for the Wreckers (0-3).

SOFTBALL

Northwestern-Catasauqua

Northwestern rolled to a 15-1 Colonial League win over Catasauqua in five innings.

Olivia Stofflet was 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Tigers (6-0), while Isabella Teprovich collected two hits and drove in three runs. Isabelle Akelaitis had a double among her two hits and drove in a run, and Morgan Farthing and Molly Mitman (two RBIs) both blasted home runs.

In the circle, Peyton Neumoyer struck out five, allowing just three hits, two walks and one run in five innings of work.

Maddie VonFrisch fired 13 strikeouts and Weatherly posted a 4-1 non-league win over Executive Charter School.

VonFrisch allowed just four hits and three walks. Ashley James had a single and an RBI for the Wreckers (4-1), while Alexis Colecio had a hit and scored two runs.

A six-run sixth inning helped Stroudsburg cruise to an 8-2 win over Pleasant Valley in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play,

Ciara Longo led the Mounties (4-0) with three hits, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Lilah Guthy had two doubles with an RBI and a run scored while Natalie Berwick also collected two hits and an RBI.

Danica Getz blasted a pair of homers for the Bears (0-2), who trailed 2-1 entering the top of the sixth.

Trista Gehris and Christy McLean both had two hits for the Olympians (2-3).

Easton-Northwestern

Easton posted a 9-6 non-league victory over Northwestern.

Trent Griffin had four goals for the Red Rovers and Kyle Evancho registered three goals and two assists.

Austin Sosnovik finished with three goals and an assist for the Tigers (3-2), while Drew Sabo added one goal and two assists. Blaine Snyder and Kane Flickinger both added a goal.

TENNIS

Lehighton-Palmerton

Lehighton edged Palmerton, 3-2.

Aaron Miller and Daniel Hoppes earned wins in singles play for the Indians (4-2), who also received a forfeit at No. 2 doubles.

Madison Balliet picked up a win at No. 3 singles for the Blue Bombers (1-6), while Brayden Kline and Logan Connelly were victorious at No. 1 doubles
