Keer enjoying strong season at Shepherd

Daniel Keer has been on a tear for the Shepherd University baseball team this spring.

The Marian graduate is batting .404 (21-for-52) with 20 RBIs, four doubles and four home runs. Keer has had at least one hit in 14 of the team’s 17 games this season, with three hits on three separate occasions, most recently against West Chester on April 3.

The senior drove in a season-high eight runs on March 27 against Kutztown.

Keer is second on the team in batting average, fourth in OPS (1.187) and slugging (.712). He is currently on a five-game hitting streak and has reached base in 14 straight games.

In a shortened 2020 season, Keer appeared in 15 games with 14 starts and led the team with a .373 batting average with 19 hits in 51 at-bats. He scored 11 runs and drove in 21, and added two doubles and a pair of home runs.

That success built on a 2019 campaign that saw Keer appear in 33 games with 28 starts and gain First Team All-MEC honors, batting .337 with 33 hits in 98 at-bats, driving in 20 runs and scoring 24. He added nine doubles and two home runs.

Keer was the Times News Baseball Player of the Year in 2017, helping Marian win back-to-back District 11 2A titles and a state playoff game.

Shepherd is 11-7 this season and set to play doubleheaders against No. 21 Millersville Saturday and Monday.
