Driver injured in East Penn crash

A young male driver was injured Saturday morning in a crash in East Penn Township.

The incident occurred just before 10 a.m. along Route 895. The driver was traveling east just before the intersection with Lauchnor Road when he lost control. The van traveled to the right entering the berm going down a steep embankment. The vehicle took out several trees before coming to rest on its wheels.

East Penn and Mahoning Valley firefighters extricated the driver from the wreckage. The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby trauma center. Area fire police maintained traffic control at the scene shutting down the roadway.

State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.
