Palmerton puts it all together

Baseball is a game where it’s often difficult to put everything together on the same day.

Pitching and hitting are unique talents that don’t always work in tandem.

But on Thursday, Palmerton made it look easy.

The Bombers were able to put together the entire package - excelling both on the mound and at the plate - in a 13-1 nonleague victory over rival Lehighton.

It didn’t take long for the Bombers to get going offensively, as they darted out to an 8-0 lead after two innings of play.

Ethan Recker and Tyler Stuck scored first-inning runs, before Palmerton exploded for six runs in the second to break the game open. Connor Beahm, Randan Solt, Recker and Brock Bollinger all collected hits during the Bomber outburst.

“Getting out early, getting out on top, that’s always want you want to do. That then makes it comfortable for your pitcher to come out and throw strikes,” said Palmerton head coach Eric Kresge. “Before this game, we talked about putting the ball in play, and we were able to do that.

“Things happened for us ... we got a couple hits early on and things fell our way. After the first two innings, we were in a really good spot.”

Palmerton pitcher Connor Beahm was just as impressive as the Bomber bats. He kept the Tribe off balance the entire game, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out four.

“Beahm is one of our top pitchers, and he had a nice outing today. He came out and threw strikes, and the defense played well today as well,” said Kresge. “We talk about it every day. If we make the plays on defense and our pitchers throw strikes, then we’re going to be ok.”

Beahm was definitely in the zone - the strike zone, that is - for the Bombers.

“I wanted to come in and be really consistent with getting the ball in the strike zone and limiting the hitters,” said Beahm. “Our defense played well behind me, and it also helped that we got out to such a good start offensively. We had a really good overall game today.”

Palmerton kept up the offensive pressure in the fourth, scoring four more runs. Beahm and Tyler Stuck came through with hits, with Stuck’s being a two-run double.

Lehighton was able to push across its lone run on a Randy Bongirono RBI single in the fourth.

LEADERS … For the Bombers, Bollinger led the way with three RBIs, Stuck and Recker added two and Serfass had one. Beahm collected two hits.

BIG BATS … Scoring hasn’t been an issue as of late for Palmerton, which has outscored its last two opponents, 35-1.
