The Northwestern boys and girls posted big wins over Northern Lehigh in track and field action on Thursday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Northwestern swept Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action.

The Tigers cruised to a 120-21 win on the boys’ side, while the hosts posted a 120-29 victory on the girls’ side.

Joshua Heilman won the 200 and 400 for the Tigers, and tied for first in the 100 with teammate Evan Anderson. Caitlyn Miller (discus, javelin), Nathan Vincent (800, 1600) and Justin Rodda (long jump, high jump) also had multiple first-place finishes.

Lauren Schellhammer (200), Haley Dubois (400), Kailyn Jones (800), Emily Fagan (1600), Maci Fisher (3200), Kirsten Mauer (long jump), Emma Nelson (triple jump) and Grace Yost (pole vault) all had wins in the girls’ contest.

Kristen Guelcher (100, 100H) led the Bulldogs with two individual wins. Cadence Whalen (high jump), Hailey Evans (shot put), Caleb Hankee (110H) and Hunter Zehner (300H) also recorded victories.

Palmerton-Palisades

Palmerton and Palisades split in Colonial League action.

The Bomber boys earned a 76-74 win, while the host Pirates ran away with a 113-36 victory on the girls’ side.

Jonathan Perloni (110H, 300H), Corlan Wood (triple jump, pole vault) and Brody Muniz (shot put, javelin) keyed the boys’ victory.

Pamerton’s Natalie Mosier finished first in the 800 and the 1600 in the girls’ meet.

SOFTBALL

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe rallied with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim a 10-5 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Christy McLean blasted a three-run home run in the decisive inning as the Olympians (2-2) erased a 4-2 deficit. McLean finished with two hits, three runs and three RBIs.

Carson Rosenberger was 2-for-4 with a single, double and four RBIs, while Trista Gehris collected two hits and drove home a pair of runs. Nadya Soliman also chipped in with two hits. Winning pitcher Amanda Goodchild struck out seven batters.

Jersey Lynn-Cook hit two homers for the Tide (2-3) among her three hits and finished with four RBIs. Emma Janowski also homered.

Marian rolled to a 16-5 Schuylkill League win over Shenandoah Valley.

Athena Matenkoski collected four hits, three RBIs and scored five runs for the Fillies (3-0, 2-0). Mia Nemeth had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Gracie Gallagher scored three times and collected two hits, and Morgan Kelly drove in three runs and had a triple. Jackie Guth added a double.

Kelly also struck out 11 in the contest.

Weatherly-Panther Valley

Weatherly cruised to a 16-0 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Amanda Colecio had three doubles for the Wreckers (3-1), while Ashley James added two singles and a double. Alexis Colecio finished with two doubles, and Marissa Hoffman had a single and a double.

Weatherly pitcher Madyson Vonfrisch didn’t allow a hit over her three innings of work.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Three runs in the top of the seventh inning pushed Blue Mountain past Tamaqua for a 7-4 Schuylkill League win.

Bryn Russian was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and three runs scored for the Eagles (3-1). Maria Friewald (two runs), Mattea Dayson and Elle Walasavage (double, RBI, run) also had two hits, while Paige Bergan added a solo home run.

Riley MacMillan was 3-for-3 with two singles, a double, run scored and two RBIs for the Blue Raiders (2-4). She also had an RBI double to score Hailey Williams in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4.

Bryn Clifford finished with 16 strikeouts in the circle for Tamaqua in seven innings of work.

Lourdes edged Lehighton 9-8 in a Schuylkill League contest.

Avery Dawkus had two triples and a double for Lourdes (2-2), which scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-7 lead. Makayla Adams collected two hits and scored two runs.

Mia Snyder went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored for the Tribe (0-3), who pounded out 15 hits in the contest and rallied with four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. Snyder had a triple and a double, while Maggie Pagotto had a double among her three hits and also scored two runs.

BASEBALL

Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.

A five-run fourth inning helped Pleasant Valley turn back Stroudsburg for an 8-5 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win at Coca-Cola Park.

Nathan Loch had two hits and two runs for the Bears (3-0), who led 7-0 after the fourth. Andrew Meitzler added two hits, one a double, and an RBI.

PV’s Jake Gethen also finished with three RBIs.

Weatherly-Panther Valley

A six-run second inning helped Panther Valley cruise to an 11-1 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Cody Orsulak paced the Panthers (4-0) with two hits, one a double, two runs and an RBI, while Johnny Byers chipped in with a single, two runs and two RBIs. Brad Hood added a single and knocked in two runs.

Panthers’ winning pitcher Michael Pascoe allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out seven.

Ben Ramirez collected both hits and scored the only run for the Wreckers (0-2).

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

A big second inning lifted Blue Mountain to a 9-6 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.

The Eagles (1-1) scored six runs in the frame. Preston Sincavage had two hits for the winners.

Tyler Hazlet was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Raiders (0-3), who cut the deficit to 7-6 after five innings, but Blue Mountain added two more runs in the top of the sixth.

Kaleb Muschock had a double and two RBIs, and Nate Wickersham also drove in two runs.

Pottsville pulled away from Jim Thorpe for an 11-1 Schuylkill League win.

Tide (2-3) pitcher John Holobetz kept the Olympians in check, allowing three hits and striking out 11 without surrendering a walk. Holobetz also helped his own cause at the plate, delivering three hits and knocking in three runs.

Caiden Hurley and Jared Marykwas both collected two hits for the Olympians (3-2).

A five-run fourth inning helped Shenandoah Valley gain a 9-5 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Nicholas Mikita paced the Blue Devils (3-1) at the plate, finishing with three hits and three RBIs.

The Colts (1-2) received a hit and a run from both Brian Hinkle and Chase Petrilyak, while Julian Rickert and Jake Chulock both finished with a hit and an RBI.

BOYS LACROSSE

Pleasant Valley-Liberty

Jack Kaye, Gavin Bauman and Nick Iandoli all had hat tricks as Pleasant Valley defeated Liberty, 11-7, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match.

The victory was the first of the season for the Bears (1-4), who also got goals from Laz Garcia and Joey Brustein.

Kaye, Billy Power and Colden Rother akk had assists for PV. Winning goalie Ben Thomaszewski had 12 saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Pleasant Valley-Liberty

Alexandra Bush scored five goals and Pleasant Valley rolled to a 16-2 win over Liberty in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Bush also had three assists for the Bears (2-1), who had seven different players score. Brielle McInaw and Riley both had three goals apiece, with McInaw also recording four assists. Julia DeYoung collected a goal and an assist.

Pleasant Valley won the JV game, 14-0.

TENNIS

Lehighton-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe gained a 3-2 victory over Lehighton.

Daniel Teets and Brendan McDermott earned wins in singles action for the Olympians (7-2).

The Indians’ Aaron Miller posted a victory at No. 1 singles. Lehighton dropped to 2-4.
