Schuylkill IU 29 relaunches writing project for long-term care facilities

As part of the continued collective efforts of the Response, Recovery, & Renewal Task Force, a letter writing project was relaunched at IU29 to provide letters and pictures to residents in long-term facilities throughout Schuylkill County.

The local effort became a statewide initiative this past November and has been named the PA Pen Pal Project. Students from the IU29 programs were excited to reach out to the residents and provide this welcoming gesture just in time for the Easter holiday.

The idea was presented in response to a discussion with the ongoing isolation that many residents are dealing with during the pandemic. This effort has provided continued support, hope and encouragement for the residents.

“We are extremely proud of our students and the kindness that they have exemplified with others in need,” said Dr. Gregory Koons, Intermediate Unit 29 executive director.
