Schuylkill County commissioners held a moment of silence Wednesday for Neil Stefanisko, 46, who died Tuesday.

Schuylkill County Commissioner George Halcovage Jr. asked for the show of respect near the conclusion of the weekly meeting.

“(He) went onto our Lord much too early.”

Chairman Barron “Boots” Hetherington said his passing was “very unexpected.”

Commissioner Gary Hess also said kind words.

“God bless him and his family. Left this earth too soon. All I know of Neil he was a true professional,” Hess said, adding he did an excellent job at the Adult Probation office.

The county human resources office confirmed Stefanisko was employed with the county since May 1997. He started as an adult probation officer II in 1997, promoted to supervisor in 2004, chief deputy in 2014 and chief adult probation officer in 2018.
