A driver is facing charges following a two-vehicle crash that occurred on April 1 at 12:54 p.m. at 99 North Railroad St., Tamaqua, in front of the ambulance station.
On scene borough police were met by a EMT person who said a Honda SUV had hit the rear of a box truck, that was stop for a red traffic light. The witness also said the driver of the Honda, later identified as Conner G. Miller, 23, of Pine Street, Tamaqua, had gotten out of his vehicle immediately after the crash and put something in the rear hatch area of the Honda.
Miller was asked for his license, registration and insurance information. He could only produce a license, which had expired in January. The communications center was then asked to run a check on Miller and it was learned he had an active warrant for his arrest issued out of Carbon County for failure to appear.
Police took Miller into custody and told him his vehicle had to be towed. He gave police consent to search the vehicle. Found in the back hatch area was a glass clear jar under clothing with 5 leafy green buds of suspected marijuana.
Miller was then taken back to the police station and charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, careless driving and operation of a vehicle without an official certificate of inspection.
At 2:15 p.m. that day sheriff deputies from Carbon County came to the station and took Miller into custody on the warrant.
