Children participate in Lehighton egg hunt

On Saturday, children in Lehighton were able to take part in an Easter egg hunt held by Bethany E.C. Church.

Pastor Tim Ream said, “We have done Easter egg hunts in the past, but we’re doing it a bit differently this year. Obviously with COVID restrictions we need to reframe things, but at the same time I know our folks are just looking to move ahead. We have been distanced and sequestered for quite some time and we’re just looking for something a little more normal.”

Children were divided into three age groups consisting of ages 3-5, 6-9 and 10-12 in order to allow for adequate space during the egg hunt.

Another new feature of the egg hunt included a leaf blower turned egg launcher contraption which was used to launch the plastic eggs onto the field for each of the different age groups. This allowed for a smooth transition between each division’s egg hunts.

The eggs contained candy and some even contained tickets that could be exchanged for prizes following the egg hunt.

One participant was Leslie Haganbuch, who collected a grand total of 74 eggs. He collected some prize eggs during the egg hunt as well, which earned him some prizes including a large chocolate bunny, a duck plushie and a blanket.

Aside from the egg hunt, the event included a VeggieTales Easter movie, snacks, goody bags and a coloring contest for the children inside of the church.

Ream said a coloring contest winner would be picked from each age division and announced during the worship service the following day.

Four-year-old Mya Bittner was one of the children taking part in the coloring contest accompanied by her great-grandmother Roxanne Simmons.

Simmons said they were not members of the church, but that they were considering joining. She explained that her and her granddaughter had attended Halloween and Christmas events at the church in the past and that each one had been an enjoyable experience.
