Area fishermen reported a good opening Saturday

Saturday morning, the first day of fishing broke chilly and windy, but that didn’t stop the fishermen in the West End of Monroe County.

Fishermen said the Fish and Boat Commission has cut back on stocking on several streams this year, including Middle Creek and Dotters Creek. Area creeks still provided some nice catches.

Twins Adam and Connor Zacharias, 12, said there was at least 20 fish. Shane Ross from Palmerton caught and released at least 15 trout before lunchtime.

Lauralle Serfass of Kunkletown and her husband David along with their two children, Leah, 12, and Wesley, 8, have both been fishing with their parent since they were 2.

“From the time I was 2, I came fishing here with my dad, and my husband grew up the same way,” Lauralle said.
