Mahoning Township has decided to allocate leftover Community Development Block Grant funds to its fire department.

On a 4-0 vote, supervisors at a special meeting Wednesday morning agreed to give $3,000 in CDBG funds to the Mahoning Valley Fire Company.

The money is leftover CDBG funds from the Pine Street improvements project.

Supervisors said the money could either go toward the fire department or the township’s existing municipal building.

Ultimately, the board chose to send the money to the fire department.

Board Chairman Bruce Steigerwalt was absent.
