BASEBALL

Marian-Tamaqua

Weather issues prevented the Marian at Tamaqua non-league game from being completed.

With Tamaqua leading 12-5 and Marian batting in the top of the fourth, the game was halted. It will be resumed from the point of interuption on April 9.

It was the season opener for the Colts, and Tamaqua’s second game in as many days.

Tamaqua trailed 5-0 after an inning of play, then proceeded to score four runs in the second inning, before adding eight more in the home third.

Marian seemed to be gathering some of its lost momentum, putting two runners on base with one away in the fourth, but as the game-long rain grew heavier the contest was halted.

Marian plated three runs in its first at bat with nary a hit taking advantage of five walks, then proceeded to build a 5-0 cushion. Again, bases on balls were a contributing factor with Jake Chulock’s two-run double being the lone hit in the rally.

Tamaqua struck for four runs in the second on three hits and five walks. Run-scoring doubles off the bats of Kaleb Mushock and Aaron Coccio were the big hits.

In the third, the Blue Raiders sent 12 batters to the plate. Only three hits were registered in the eight-run rally, as Nate Wickersham, Joel Schellhammer and Coccio each had singles.

SOFTBALL

Tamaqua-Kutztown

MaKayla Drey smacked a first-inning grand slam, and Kutztown rolled to a 13-3 non-league win over Tamaqua.

Samantha Furst and Caitlyn Lubak also had two hits apiece for the Cougars (1-0).

Lexi Thomas was 2-for-2 with a double and a home run for the Raiders (0-3). Hailey Williams and Bryn Clifford had a triple and a double, respectively, while Alexus Warne singled and drove in a run.
