Palmerton approves liquor license transfer for pub

A fine dining restaurant and pub has been given the stamp of approval to open in Palmerton.

Borough council on Thursday approved the request from Jenset Inc. for a liquor license transfer.

The transfer is from Dean Anthony’s Banquet Hall in Jim Thorpe to the Palmerton Hotel at 304 Delaware Ave.

A public hearing was conducted on the transfer before council’s decision.

The restaurant will be known as the Palmerton Pub, a fine dining restaurant and pub, according to Jeff Broadt, the former owner of Dean Anthony’s Banquet Hall.

Broadt told council Palmerton Pub will have a “family atmosphere.”

“I’m not trying to be another run-of-the-mill bar,” Broadt said. “It’s a great opportunity for us.”

Broadt said they closed the banquet facility at 1122 North St. in Jim Thorpe.

He said his intention is to have a soft-opening at his new restaurant by the end of April.

Broadt said his target opening date for Palmerton Pub is May 15.

He said they plan to have a minimum of 14 to 18 employees.

Afterward, several members of council congratulated Broadt, with some welcoming him to Palmerton.

Broadt previously said Palmerton Pub will have pub style food, ranging from sandwiches to full-blown dinners Everything is homemade.

In November 2019, the Fast Fit Cafe expanded into the business next door, The Palmerton Hotel at 302-304 Delaware Ave.

But, just as owners began consolidating the two businesses, Fast Fit Cafe closed in January 2020, and The Palmerton Hotel followed.

Jim Christman, who owns the properties, has worked to improve the furnished rooms for rent atop The Palmerton Hotel.

He said the rooms were in good shape at first, but over the years they fell into disrepair. When the last bar/restaurant tenant left, Christman said they decided to go in and bring the rooms back to life.
