Palmerton man sentenced on four criminal counts

A Palmerton man was sentenced in the county court on Thursday to a county prison term on four criminal counts he previously entered pleas.

Daniel Scott Behler, 41, was sentenced to serve a total of three to one day less 24 months in prison on charges of criminal trespass, a felony 3, receiving stolen property, felony 3; forgery, a felony 3; and operation of a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker, a summary. President Judge Roger N. Nanovic imposed the sentence.

The forgery charge stems back to an incident in 2015 filed by state police at Lehighton. The case has had 22 continuances filed in it.

Troopers said Behler took two vehicles not belonging to him, forged signatures on certificates of transfers on the vehicles and then sold them.

He also admitted to trespassing at a residence along Cherry Hill Road in Towamensing Township on property of the Bowmanstown Water Authority; he admitted to receiving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on or about April 30, 2018, at a repair shop he was operating in Parryville which was later determined to be stolen; and to driving a vehicle on June 1, 2017, along Avenue A in Palmerton without a proper inspection sticker.

“I did mess up,” Behler said, adding, “I just want to move forward with my life.”

In addition to the prison term, Behler was ordered to make restitution of $4,000, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole. On the summary offense he was fined $25 and costs.

On the forgery and criminal trespass counts, he was given one to one day less 24 months and he was given credit for 120 days on each and paroled.

He must serve the remaining time on the receiving count, which was three to 24 months less a day, and will on consecutive weekends beginning at 7 p.m. on March 26. He was given credit on that charge of two days.
