Carbon County court
A Carbon County man entered guilty pleas to theft counts and a drug charge in three pending criminal cases last week in the county court.
He was one of four defendants in pending cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Lansford incidents
Stanley Roland Kieffer, 56, of Lansford, plead to two felony 3 counts of theft and one count of possession of a controlled substance, ungraded misdemeanor.
He was arrested on the theft charges on March 25, 2017, by Lansford police for taking items from a location in the 700 block of East Patterson Street. Removed in one case were aluminum pole jacks valued at $2,300, and in the second case three snap wrenches, micrometers and other tools valued at $2,800. The drug offense occurred on May 24, 2017, in Lansford along East Kline Avenue when he was found with oxycodone and didn’t have a prescription for it.
In exchange for the one theft count a felony 1 charge of burglary was dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.
On the theft counts Matika placed him on probation for three years and on the drug charge one year probation, with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to make total restitution of $5,100, render a total of 150 hours of community service, supply a DNA sample and have no contact with the victim.
Drug case
Adelaida L. Cruz,Kevin K. Fisher, 51, of Parryville, was arrested on May 23, 2019, by Franklin Township police following a traffic stop. He also pleaded to one count of driving under suspension, DUI related.
Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for placement in the Restrictive Conditions of Probation - house arrest - program.
Peter Scott Barna, 43, of Stroudsburg, was arrested on Oct. 17, 2019, by state police at Lehighton in Towamensing Township following a traffic stop.
Sentencing was deferred so Barna can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation. His plea was done via video conference from the Monroe County prison where he is an inmate on unrelated charges.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
