Carbon County court — DUI
Five defendants who previously entered guilty pleas were sentenced on Monday in Carbon County court on driving under the influence and related charges.
Judge Steven R. Serfass presided.
Aaron G. Long, 30, of Palmerton, was sentenced to 60 months in the county’s Restrictive Probation Program with 275 days on electronic monitoring. He was also sentenced to serve 90 days in jail, given credit for 90 days spent in an inpatient rehabilitation program run by the Salvation Army and paroled, pay a fine of $2,500, license suspended for 18 months, supply a DNA sample, make restitution for damages of $4,125.84, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and render 100 hours of community service.
It was noted that Long actually spent 196 days in the Salvation Army program and 90 days in the Lehigh County prison on another DUI charge.
He was arrested on May 26, 2018, along Lafayette Avenue by Palmerton police. A test revealed a 0.18 BAC.
Christopher R. Deans, 35, of Tamaqua, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render a total of 75 hours of community service.
He also pleaded to a charge of recklessly endangering another person and was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the DUI charge. In exchange for the plea, a felony count of fleeing or attempting to elude police was dropped in a plea deal.
He was arrested on Nov. 3, 2019, by Palmerton police along Route 248 when he was clocked going 100 mph eastbound in a 55 zone.
Yvonne Ann Zukosky, 54, of Palmerton, and formerly of Weatherly, was placed in the Restrictive Probation Program for 60 months with the first 120 days on electronic monitoring. She was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, supply a DNA sample and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use.
She was arrested on Dec. 1, 2017, by Palmerton police. In exchange for the plea, a charge of possession of a prohibitive weapon was dropped.
Veronica L. Keeley, 39, of Stroudsburg, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension and render a total of 50 hours of community service. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia she was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the DUI charge.
She was arrested on April 12, 2018, by state police at Fern Ridge for DUI of a controlled substance.
She was given credit for three days already served and paroled.
Darwin Ruben Jimenez, 28, of Passaic, New Jersey, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.
He was arrested on Oct. 14, 2017, by sate police at Fern Ridge for DUI of a controlled substance.
He was given credit for eight days already served and paroled.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
