Drive today

There is a Miller-Keystone blood drive at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville from noon to 6 p.m. today.

Donors can call the toll free number 800-223-6667 or schedule an appointment online at GIVEaPINT.org.

The April drive dates are April 7 and 21. The first drive time is from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The time for the second April drive is noon to 6 p.m. again.

Leprechaun found?

The results should be known by next week: Who found Lucky the Leprechaun and two friends, or at least one of them, hidden in one or more of the three park WEPOSC locations, with the search ending today.

The parks are Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville; Ross Township Park, 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg; and West End Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road.

Whoever found one was asked to submit a selfie with the leprechaun and information including contact information (name and number), as well as tell where he was found for a chance to win a prize by today to Program Coordinator Kim Tuin at ktuin@weposc.org.

Participants will be entered into a drawing for chances to win prizes.

Free dinner

Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free community dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. today. The dinner will be available by way of a drive-thru pickup.

Eldred Supervisors

The Board of Supervisors for Eldred Township is slated to meet at 7 p.m. today at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

Meetings are being held virtually and in person, with 10 people allowed due to COVID-19 restrictions. However the meeting is also available virtually or by phone. Check the website or call 610-381-4252 to verify a meeting.

PVAG free food

Free food boxes should be available at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church in Brodheadsville from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. Thursday. The boxes contain dairy, meat, veggies and fruit.

Meeting again

The Western Pocono Lions Club is slated to meet in person at Cherry’s in Kresgeville at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

League meeting

The West End Little League is set to have an open meeting at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Friday feast

The Feast of St. Joseph is being celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace RC Church in Gilbert on Friday. Parishioners and friends are invited to join the church on Facebook each morning at 7:30 a.m. for the Novena to St. Joseph ending with the Solemnity Mass on Friday at 8 a.m.

Lasagna pickup

For all who ordered a lasagna dinner from Effort UMC, remember to pick it up from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Bingo ahead

The WEPOSC bingo was canceled in February due to inclement weather. However, March will hopefully be better. Bingo is on the agenda at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville for 6:30 p.m. Friday.

COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, which means wearing a mask inside the premises.

Men’s Ministry

Free dog training

A free dog training class is being offered at the WEPOSC’s Dog Park at the West End Regional Park, 3551 Merwine Hilltop Road, Brodheadsville, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday by dog trainer David J. Henon of University of Pets.

Bring your dog to go over basic commands and how it can help solve many behavior issues and also learn about the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen and how it can help get discounts on a homeowners policy.

Also shared will be how a dog can become a therapy dog. Organizers ask that dogs in attendance be human and dog friendly. Aggression can be discussed with Henon one on one.

Pantry open

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown is open from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Its aim is to help those in a food emergency in Polk, Ross, Chestnuthill and Eldred townships as well as local surrounding communities.

Sunday services

Effort UMC asks folks to register for Sunday’s services. Services are at 8:30, 10 and 11:15 a.m. That can be done through the church website or by calling the church office on the Thursday or Friday before Sunday’s service.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, has seating for up to 250 people. Worshippers are asked to wear a mask and follow ushers’ directions.

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, reminds all to remember to register for Sunday morning services at https://rsvp.church/r/KgEqTSFS.

Also a reminder that PV Kids and Nursery is offered during the 11 a.m. service.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, offers a virtual service by email, YouTube and Facebook via ssplckresgeville.org.

Coming on Palm Sunday is a 10:45 a.m. parking lot service with blessing of the palms and Holy Communion.

Polk Supervisors

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the municipal building in Kresgeville.

Republicans meet

The West End Republican Club is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville. For dinner, arrive at 6 p.m.

Soup sale

McMichaels UMC is having a soup and dessert sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 27. There will be a variety of homemade soups and desserts. Soups will be available by the quart or pint. The desserts will be packaged in small baggies or sold as whole or half cakes and pies. The soups and desserts will be displayed and are to be purchased in the fellowship hall. Masks must be worn and social distancing is required.

All items are to-go with no gatherings or eating in the church permitted as per coronavirus protocol.

Free tax help

United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program provides free tax preparation for low-to-moderate income families. Individual filers or families who earned $57,000 or less in 2020 are eligible for those services.

IRS certified volunteers will prepare federal, state and local taxes for free, by appointment. There are no hidden fees or charges. Call 570-261-8011 to schedule the tax appointment and to be added to the appointment list.

Egg hunt

Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a community drive-thru egg hunt from 1 to 3 p.m. March 28, for ages 5 through fifth grade.

Deadline coming

Graduating Monroe County Seniors who will be attending college and majoring in an environmental field can apply for the $500 Stanley Becker Memorial scholarship.

Application deadline is April 2.

Garden of Giving

Planting is set to begin at the Saylorsburg (McMichaels) Garden of Giving with kale, Swiss chard and other cold weather crops on April 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Habitat bargains

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity has announced its warehouse sales by appointment. With an emphasis on safety, all who are interested in shopping are required to schedule an appointment ahead of time with the Habitat office.

Among the many items available are light fixtures, various doors, tools, gardening supplies, paint, carpeting, etc.
