State police at Frackville report on crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways.

• A rear-end crash was reported at 7:59 a.m. on March 6 along Interstate 81 in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Jazzniya J. Royster, 20, of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, driving a 2012 Mazda 5, and Mark D. Miller, 50, of Lebanon, driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan, were northbound, when Royster’s vehicle rear-ended Miller’s vehicle. After impact the Dodge rotated 270 degrees and went into a wooded area. Upon impact the Mazda traveled across the southbound lanes and came to rest along the west shoulder.

Royster and a 16-year-old male passenger, were taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment of injuries. Miller and his passenger, Judy Miller, 55, were not injured.

Troopers cited Royster for following too closely.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported on Interstate 81 in Delano Township at 7:20 a.m. March 6. Troopers said Ramirez Perez, 60, of Lahham, Maryland, was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado truck northbound when he lost control due to snow on the roadway caused by he sudden snow squall. The truck went onto the berm and struck an embankment, then traveled counterclockwise and came to rest in the left lane.

Perez and his passenger, Denis Aleman, 26, of Silver Springs, Maryland, were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital - Hazleton campus, for treatment of minor injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Perez was cited for the crash.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported on March 4 at 1:32 p.m. along Route 61 in Blythe Township. Troopers said Vicky L. McMinn, 43, of Shenandoah, was northbound in the left lane driving a 2015 Jeep Renegade just before Mall Road when a tractor truck with trailer passed her in the right lane. The trailer portion struck the passenger side of the Jeep. The truck driver then fled the scene.

McMinn was not injured.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 10:24 p.m. on March 9 along the Burma Road in Ryan Township. Troopers said Joseph W. Ritter, 32, of Saint Clair, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound and too fast for conditions when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. His vehicle went onto the right shoulder and crashed into a snow bank.

Ritter sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville. The vehicle had to be towed.

He was cited for the crash.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported at 7:16 p.m. on March 5 along I-81 in Delano Township. Troopers said a vehicle was being driven southbound in the left lane while Brandilyn M. Kultys, 26, of Swoyersville, Luzerne County, was southbound in the right lane. The other driver attempted to merge into the right lane with the back end of a flat bed trailer striking Kulty’s 2005 Ford Focus on the drivers side. After impact the other driver continued southbound.

Kultys was not injured.
