Activities start back up at Franklin fire company

Activities are set to resume at the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company.

The fire company, its auxiliary and fire police are about to put their fundraising efforts into high gear, according to Chris Lilly, president of the auxiliary.

“While the organizations will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines in asking that everyone wear masks, continue hand-washing and sanitizing, and practice self-distancing, more activities are opening after what seemed like a long winter hiatus,” Lilly said.

Lilly said that Thursday night bingo has restarted. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. The kitchen is open and tables are distanced.

She said area residents can complete their Easter dinner by purchasing a quart of unbaked filling for $7. The sale will take place on March 30, and orders may be picked up at the fire company between noon and 3 p.m. on that day. Orders should be placed by March 26 by calling Chris at 610-377-8573 or Pat at 570-778-9229.

Lilly said the Good Friday sale of unbaked pizza is scheduled for April 2. Plain pizza is $7, and extra cheese or extra pepperoni pies are priced at $8 each. Orders must be placed by March 24 by calling Mary at 610-377-0755 or Pam at 484-464-0645. Pizza should be picked up between 1-3 p.m. April 2.

Additionally, she said dates for the popular drive-thru/takeout dinners have been set. The first four dinners are scheduled for April 16, May 7, June 4 and June 18. The April 16 meal will feature a choice of meatloaf or baked haddock, macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes, with green beans, bread and butter. The price is $10 per platter. Orders may be placed by calling Mary at 610-377-0755 or Pat at 570-778-9229.

When calling to place orders, people are asked to leave a callback number. They are not to leave a message for orders on voicemail.

Lilly said that while it’s been a rough go of things, the organizations believe the time is right to resume activities.

“The fire company, auxiliary and fire police noted that the community has offered tremendous support throughout the pandemic, and everyone is looking forward to continued support as they begin more activities,” she said. “Plans are in the works for an outdoor flea market, two more pizza sales, a Thanksgiving filling sale and additional takeout dinners each month.”
