Ross Twp. launches its Facebook page
Ross Township now has a Facebook page, where video of its monthly supervisors’ meetings and information about upcoming events will be posted.
“In an effort to become more transparent, we will start livestreaming and archiving our meetings. Tonight is a trial run,” said Supervisor James Zahoroiko as the monthly meeting began on Monday evening.
Zahoroiko, with help from Randy Detrick, a township resident and owner of Blue Ridge Winery, set up the Facebook page called Ross Township, Monroe County of Pennsylvania. This is to differentiate it from the Ross Township in Pittsburgh.
Before the meeting started, Detrick set up a tripod with an Insta360 One x2 camera. Using his cellphone and the camera, he livestreamed the meeting.
“For the first 11 minutes, it worked fine. Then it dropped off. It reconnected after a few seconds,” Detrick said.
While the supervisors met for an executive session in another room, Detrick tried to troubleshoot and get it to stay online.
Detrick said he bought it for use at the winery and will bring it to the monthly meetings.
For the April meeting, he asked supervisors if it would be OK if he filmed the meeting first, and then uploaded it. Supervisors said that was fine, given the technical difficulties with the Wi-Fi experienced during the trial run.
The township made its first post on Feb. 11, “Welcome to the official Facebook page for Ross Township of Monroe County, Pennsylvania! Here, you will get the latest updates for events in Ross Township as well as your right to know the happenings of Township meetings and minutes. Follow us to stay informed!”
