Troopers give safety tips for snowmobilers

Troopers throughout Lehigh County have been responding to complaints of snowmobiles operating in a reckless and dangerous manner. Troop M would like to remind operators of snowmobiles the hazards and dangers of driving in a reckless and irresponsible manner. When operating a snowmobile, operators should:

• Wear appropriate clothes and protective gear including a Department of Transportation-approved helmet

• Carry a first aid kit

• Do not speed

• Do not overload the snowmobile

Operators of snowmobiles need to have permission from landowners prior to operating their snowmobile on private property. Failure to do so could lead to Title 75 Section 7724, “Operation on Private or State Property” and Title 75 Section 3717, “Trespass by Motor Vehicle” charges of the Vehicle Law and possible criminal charges.
