Plans for latrine facilities advance

Plans to improve latrine facilities at four locations within Hickory Run State Park need some work, but county officials say it can move forward once these minor problems are addressed.

Last week, the Carbon County Planning Commission reviewed the plans for latrine improvements at Camp Shehaqua, Camp Daddy Allen Loop C Organized Group Camping Campground and the Organized Group Tent Camping.

The facilities will be demolished at three of the sites, and new, modern shower houses and flush comfort stations will be constructed.

At the fourth site, located at the Organized Group Tent Camping, the existing portable latrine will be removed and modern shower house and flush comfort station will be constructed.

Ivan O. Meixell, county planner, said there are some areas within the plan that must be addressed before development can move forward, but noted there were no significant issues.

The commission also recommended approving waiver requests to remove naming adjoining property owners because of the size of the state park and removing the requirement to include a cost estimate because it is a state-funded project. These recommendations are consistent with the Kidder Township Planning Commission meeting on Jan. 6.
