Schuylkill borough’s water supply interrupted

A Schuylkill County borough’s water supply was interrupted over the past weekend when someone damaged a water tank.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said they received a complaint from the Auburn Municipal Authority regarding a criminal mischief incident at a water storage tank located near Cemetery Road. Troopers said two people entered the secure area of the tank and climbed the tower around a locked access gate. They damaged a aluminum vent located near the top of the tank. The tank holds about 300,000 gallons of water.

As a result a precautionary “do not drink” order was issued for about 900 citizens that use the water from the tank. The announcement of the temporary band of water use was made by the borough fire company. The incident occurred between Friday and Sunday.
