Man with multiple warrants assaults troopers

A Saylorsburg man with multiple warrants for his arrest has been charged with assaulting state troopers.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Jonathan Housenick of the Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge barracks in the case against Andrew Brensinger:

At 12:32 a.m. Feb. 12, Housenick was conducting a patrol check of the Wawa Uni-Mart in Brodheadsville when he saw Brensinger, 43, slumped over and unconscious behind the wheel of a black 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee while the vehicle was running.

After several attempts to wake Brensinger, Housenick appeared abnormally hyper, nervous and moving in an uncontrollable fashion consistent with recent methamphetamine use.

It was discovered that Brensinger had several warrants for his arrest out of Berks County.

Brensinger showed signs of impairment during a field sobriety check.

Housenick attempted to place Brensinger into custody, at which time he fled from the scene across Route 209.

While taking Brensinger into custody, he kicked both Housenick and Trooper Joseph Richards in the head several times.

Brensinger was eventually taken into custody with assistance from Cpl. Charles Phelps and Trooper Shane McGarr of Pennsylvania State Police Stroudsburg barracks.

Brensinger faces charges of flight to avoid apprehension/trial/punishment; aggravated assault; driving under influence of alcoholic/controlled substance; resist arrest/other law enforcement; simple assault; disorderly conduct engage in fighting, and false identification to law enforcement officer.

He is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Friday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
