Schuylkill controller takes steps against virus

Schuylkill County Controller Sharon Yackenchick spoke Wednesday of actions her office has taken to reduce the potential spread of the coronavirus.

She said the office updated the payroll procedure by having each office scan time cards to the payroll specialist to limit interaction, jurors now receive their compensation in the mail instead of receiving cash at the treasurer’s office, thereby eliminating crowding in the treasurer’s office and hallways, improving payment processes to include a review of all vendors, resulting in a more concise and accurate vendor enabling proper payments, and working with the bank to “protect the county from losses from fraudulent payment activity.”

With consideration of retirees in mind, they may complete retirement paperwork and update their benefits by not coming into the courthouse, Yackenchick said.
