The Pennsylvania State Police have filed murder charges against the Pine Grove man charged in the death of his grandmother.
Kalvin Clark, 33, now faces first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault, strangulation, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault in the death of his 73-year-old grandmother, Sharon Zimmerman. Charges were filed in Magisterial District Judge David Rossi’s office, Tremont.
Clark remains in Schuylkill County Prison on $250,000 bail. A video arraignment is set for 9 a.m. Friday.
He also faces previous aggravated assault and simple assault charges in her death.
Schuylkill County District Attorney Michael O’Pake said he met with troopers from Schuylkill Haven about the case.
“The newer charges were filed as a result of receiving a preliminary autopsy report from Dr. (Wayne) Ross indicating that the cause of death was manual strangulation,” O’Pake said.
The Schuylkill County Communications Center received a call 3:15 p.m. Jan 24 for an elderly woman who had slipped in the shower and had cuts. Schuylkill EMS responded at 3:17 p.m. to 89 N. Tulpehocken St. and found Zimmerman dead. Police were then called. Police say Clark admitted he and the victim had an argument before her death.
