Carbon County court — guilty pleas

An Effort man was sentenced to a county prison term last week on a driving under the influence charge he previously entered a guilty plea.

Also, a total of 11 defendants in pending DUI cases entered guilty pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Wayne Leroy Altemose, 41, was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months on a DUI of a controlled substance count by Serfass. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, supply a DNA sample and render 100 hours of community service.

He also previously pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance, stemming from the DUI case, and was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with the DUI charge and to render an additional 50 hours of community service.

He was arrested on Sept. 6, 2016, by Mahoning Township police in the parking lot of the McDonald’s Restaurant along Route 443. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was given credit for 16 days already served on the charge and will begin the jail term in Carbon on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.

Altemose entered his plea via video conference from the Monroe County prison where he is being held on a pending DUI charge.

Pleas entered

The following entered pleas to DUI and related counts.

Matthew Warren Allamong, 33, of Allentown, formerly of Albrightsville, was arrested on Dec. 7, 2019, by state police at the Pocono barracks following a traffic stop. He also pleaded to driving under suspension.

On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500, one year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. On the suspension count he was fined $200.

He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on March 12 and serve it on consecutive weekends of three days and then two days.

Michael Vincent Plitt Jr., 33, of Lansford, was arrested on Aug. 26, 2020, by Lansford police for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.

Corey Ligenza, 26, of State College, Centre County, was arrested on June 22, 2018, by Nesquehoning police for DUI of a controlled substance. He was arrested after being involved in a crash.

He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, render 25 hours of community service and make restitution of $250 for damages in the crash.

He was given credit for time spent in two inpatient rehabilitation programs totaling 58 days and paroled.

Joseph A. Sorokach, 25, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Jan. 26, 2020, by state police at Lehighton in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed a 0.12 BAC.

He was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on March 5.

Ryan Keith Dillman, 32, of Palmerton, was arrested in Aug. 7, 2020, by state police at Lehighton in Lower Towamensing Township. He also pleaded to driving under suspension.

On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. On the suspension count he was fined $200.

The jail term runs concurrent with a prison term he is currently serving in the county prison. His plea was entered via video conference from the prison.

William Filmore Coale III, 45, of Bethlehem, was arrested on May 24, 2019, by state police at Lehighton in Bowmanstown for DUI of a controlled substance.

He was placed in the county’s Restrictive Probation Conditions program (house arrest) for six months with the first 10 days on electronic monitoring, ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.

The house arrest program will be supervised by Northampton County adult probation office.

Colleen E. Coscio, 29, of Palmerton, was arrested on March 5, 2020, by Franklin Township police, after being involved in a crash. A test showed 0.27 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred.

Josiah R. Johnson, 38, of Lehighton, was arrested on Sept. 23, 2019, by state police at Lehighton after being involved in a crash on a motorcycle in Lower Towamensing Township. He refused a test.

Sentencing was deferred so Johnson can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Kelly Ann Ord, 38, of Palmerton, was arrested on Jan. 25, 2020, by state police at Lehighton in Lower Towamensing Township. She also pleaded to recklessly endangering another person with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office. Two children were in the vehicle. She refused a test.

Sentencing was deferred so she can apply for the house arrest program.

Jason Joseph Houser, 37, of Lehighton, pleaded in two pending cases. He was arrested on Dec. 28, 2019, by Lehighton police, with a test revealing a 0.20 BAC. The second arrest occurred on Feb. 23, 2020, by Mahoning Township police. The second case involved a hit-and-run. His vehicle struck two parked cars. A test revealed a 0.23 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.

David Wayne Fish, 53, of Saylorsburg, was arrested on July 29, 2020, by Franklin Township police after being involved in a hit-and-run. He also pleaded to driving under suspension, DUI related. A test revealed a 0.26 BAC.

On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months, supply a DNA sample and render 100 hours of community service.

On the suspension count he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail, must serve the full 90 days, and a fine of $1,000. The jail terms run concurrently.

He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on March 5 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole/probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
