Tamaqua Salvation Army to reopen Thursday

The Tamaqua Salvation Army will reopen to the public Thursday morning. The venue was temporarily closed due to inclement weather.

“We’re sorry for the closure,” said Capt. John Luby. “Most of my staff lives in Lansford or Lehighton. … Food will be available and ready to go on Thursday. We should have enough to keep filling.”

Luby said the building is listed for sale and the group’s final church service is scheduled for March 7. However, Luby said not to panic, the Salvation Army will not be completely on its way out of town.

“We plan to have the building fully sold by April or May. Where, and to whom we sell it, will depend whether we’re doing our social services (food pantry, etc.) out of there, or a different local place. But we are not leaving Tamaqua.”
