Serious injuries in Rush crash

Serious injuries were reported on a three-vehicle crash that occurred in Rush Township on Tuesday.

According to police officers responded to a crash at Claremont Avenue (Route 309), south of Ye Olde Hauto Road. Police determined a 2008 Chrysler Town & County, operated by a 29-year-old woman from Allentown, who police declined to identify, was in the northbound passing lane when she lost control. Her vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by a 55-year-old man from Tamaqua, who police declined to identify. The Chrysler then collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado truck operated by a 29-year-old man from Summit Hill, who police declined to identify. The collision between the Chrysler and Mercury caused the driver’s side rear tire be torn from the Chrysler.

The driver of the Chrysler sustained life-threatening injuries as did a front seat passenger, a 13-year-old boy from Tamaqua. Both were treated at the scene by medical personnel and then transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. A third passenger in the vehicle, a 3-month-old girl, was also taken to LVH for evaluation.

Rush police were assisted at the scene by EMS units from Ryan Township, McAdoo, Tamaqua and Lehighton; state police; and Hometown Fire Company firefighters and fire police.
