Lehighton fire department installs air purification systems

The Lehighton Fire Department is the latest to install air purification systems inside fire apparatus to safeguard emergency responders.

Borough fire Chief Pat Mriss said the fire department took delivery of six sentinel 300 air and surface purification units recently.

“These units will be installed on our apparatus to help protect our volunteers from germs, bacteria and VOC gases,” Mriss said. “These units will not only help with COVID-19, but will help with other hazards the fire department faces.”

Mriss said it’s a unit that cleanses the air and actively neutralizes bacteria and stabilizes mold.

“We have six that are going in our main front-line pieces,” he said. “It came through COVID grant money we were able to purchase for our firefighters and keep them safe.”
