False equivalencies

Dear Editor:

I am horrified when I hear so many people repeating the claim that this Summer’s BLM protests were just as bad as the Jan. 6 attack on our Congress. To compare street protests, however destructive, with committing sedition against our own government is appalling!

I wonder if the people who condemn BLM marchers for violence realize that the worst offenses were committed by white guys? Steven Carrillo, an Air Force staff sergeant, was arrested for shooting two officers; one was a security guard who was shot dead; the other was a sheriff’s deputy. Carrillo was present at the burning of a police station. Other white guys were on video smashing store windows. One of the oldest tricks in the book is to send agitators and troublemakers to a scene, in order to discredit a legitimate protest. 93 percent of all BLM marches are proven to have been peaceful.

I have listened for months as Trump attacked our election and called for people to take action against our Congress members. His inflammatory rhetoric deliberately inflames anger, for his own purposes.
