West End news for Jan. 20, 2021

Touching lives

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network has an amazing number of lives it has touched this past December.

The food pantry component of the PVEN served 264 families and 843 individuals.

The clothing closet had 49 emergency requests it fulfilled and distributed 32 packages of diapers.

With the help of the community, the PVEN provided Christmas gifts for 250 children.

Those gifts came from local businesses, churches, and the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program.

And the PVEN’s Clothing Closet, with help from the West End Rotary, distributed coats and personal care products to over 70 families, including 170 children.

Each child also received a coat purchased by the Rotary through its Operation Warm program.

The Clothing Closet team was able to give some almost 1,270 items of clothing, 1,276 personal care items, 79 assorted bags of feminine hygiene products, over 460 household products such as laundry detergent, paper towels, facial tissues and assorted cleaning products and over 70 baby food products out as well, according to Colleen Walsh, Operations Manager at the PVEN.

Current needs for the pantry include canned pasta, soup, stuffing and baked beans.

Needs for the Clothing Closet include: baby items for sizes 0 to 3 months or 3 to 6 months, baby wipes, onesies, sleep and play outfits, blankets, swaddlers, hooded towels, washcloths and booties.
