Saturday report: 7,166 additional COVID-19 cases reported

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Saturday that there were 7,166 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 761,777.

There are 4,848 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, near double the peak in the spring. Of that number, 1,010 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Jan. 1 - Jan. 7 stood at 14.4%.

As of 11:59 p.m. Friday there were 231 new deaths reported for a total of 19,188 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 59,243 resident cases of COVID-19, and 11,157 cases among employees, for a total of 70,400 at 1,513 distinct facilities in all 67 counties.

Locally, Carbon County added 106 news case for a total of 3,815. There are 106 deaths, one more since Friday.

Lehigh County has 25,209 cases, an increase of 273, with seven more deaths for a total of 603.

Luzerne County has 20,438 cases, an increase of 141. There were 12 more deaths, bringing the total to 535.

In Monroe County, there are 113 new cases since Friday for a total of 7,616. Two more deaths were reported for a total of 229.

In Northampton County, there are 241 additional cases, for a total of 20,432. Three more deaths were attributed to COVID-19 for a total of 506.

Schuylkill County reported 10,098 cases, an increase of 149. Seven new deaths were reported, bringing the total to 289.
