A Lansford man was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday in five criminal cases.
John H. Hower, 40, previously pleaded to two counts each of possession of a controlled substance and retail theft and one count each of DUI and driving while under suspension - DUI related.
He was arrested for retail thefts at the Walmart store by Mahoning Township police on April 21, 2018, and Dec. 11, 2019. The drug arrests occurred on Dec. 6, 2019, filed by Nesquehoning police following a traffic stop. He was a passenger in the vehicle and methamphetamine was found with him. The second drug arrest occurred on Dec. 14, 2019, filed by Lansford police who responded to a domestic complaint and found drugs. The DUI and suspension counts occurred on Sept. 29, 2019, filed by Lehighton police following a vehicle stop along Fourth Street.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic sentenced him to serve a total of 90 days to five years in the county prison. He also must pay $2,500 in fines for the DUI and suspension counts and 18 months license suspension. He was also ordered to supply a DNA sample. He was placed on probation for two years on the theft counts, which runs concurrent with the jail term. He must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
He will begin serving the jail term at 9 a.m. on Feb. 12 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.
