Pa. reports 7,000 more cases Wednesday

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Wednesday that there were 7,619 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 741,389.

There are 5,204 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, near double the peak in the spring. Of that number, 1,060 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

As of Tuesday, there were 349 new deaths reported for a total of 18,080 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

There have been 342,588 doses of the vaccine have been administered. Please note that this does include vaccine administration through the CVS as part of the Federal Pharmacy Partnership.

Local numbers

• Carbon County reported 3,626 cases, an increase of 73 since Tuesday. Two more deaths were reported for a total of 99.

• Lehigh reported 24,383 cases, 373 additional cases. Twelve more deaths were reported for a total of 580.

• Luzerne reported 19,913, 190 more than the previous day. Seven more deaths were reported for a 513 total.

• Monroe reported 7,353, an uptick of 109. Three more deaths were reported for a total of 221.

• Northampton County reported 19,753, an increase of 245. Eight more deaths were reported for a total of 493.

• Schuylkill County has 133 new cases, bringing the total to 9,736. There are four more deaths for a total of 279.
