State police at Fern Ridge - Crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 6:32 a.m. on Dec. 21 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Daniel P. Hass, 49, of Blakeslee, was driving a 2016 Toyota Sequoia southbound when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. Hass was not injured but the vehicle was towed.

He was cited for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 8:52 a.m. on Jan. 6 along Route 534 in Kidder Township. Troopers said Michael C. Devitt, 32, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2003 BMW westbound when he entered a left curve, failed to react and drove off the right shoulder. The vehicle struck a tree, sign and then a second tree where it came to rest.

Devitt was not injured but the vehicle was towed.

He was cited for the crash.

• A crash was reported at 5:39 p.m. on Jan. 3 along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township. Kenneth Ocasio-Rosario, 22, of Norristown, was driving a 2014 Lexus eastbound and failed to negotiate a left-hand curve due to traveling too fast for conditions. The vehicle left the road and hit a guide rail.

Ocasio-Rosario and his five passengers were not injured. The vehicle was towed.

He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A crash occurred at 5:08 p.m. on Jan. 3 along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Esteban N. Smith, 23, of Blakeslee, was driving a 2005 Subaru northbound when he lost control. The vehicle struck a sign and a guide rail.

Smith was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• Two vehicles were damaged at 11:55 a.m. Dec. 9 on the Gilbert Road in Chestnuthill Township. No one was injured.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said it happened when a 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Carisa A. Baylif, 38, of Schuylkill Haven, was southbound and partially off the roadway. Police said a 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Trooper Dadurka was northbound at the time when he stopped and got out of the vehicle to assist the disabled motorist. Police said the car he had been operating slid toward the shoulder of the road and the driver’s side door, which was still open, struck the rear bumper of Baylif’s vehicle.

Baylif’s car sustained minor damages and the police vehicle was moderately damaged.

• The driver of one of two vehicles involved in a crash at the intersection of Route 115 and Evergreen Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township sustained possible injuries.

Linnae A. Cintron, 64, of Effort complained of back pain but refused a transport by the West End Community Ambulance.

Police said the incident occurred when her 2012 Toyota RAV4 was on Route 115 waiting to turn left onto Evergreen Hollow Road and was struck from behind by a 2007 Volvo driven by a 17-year-old male from Kunkletown. He was not injured, and neither was a 14-year-old boy from Kunkletown who was in the car.

The RAV4 sustained damage to its rear bumper while the Volvo sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene, police said.

The 17-year-old was cited for following too closely, police said.

• Police cited the driver of a 2020 Peterbilt tractor-trailer for careless driving after a parking lot incident at 1:31 p.m. Dec. 15 off Dairy Lane in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said the driver was going west in the lot when the top of the truck collided with multiple PPL cables before rolling backward 5 feet. Police said multiple cables were broken and moved out of place.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 30 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Brandon T. Bernardo, 21, of Palmerton, driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and Sharon A. Tallada, 57, of Tannersville, driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, were both southbound when Tallada stopped for other vehicles stopped ahead of her. Bernardo did not see her stop and the front of his car hit the rear of the Equinox.

Bernardo sustained a minor injury and his passenger, Melissa R. Schoch, 21, of Palmerton, was not injured. Tallada and her passenger, a 5-year-old female, were not injured.

Troopers cited Bernardo for following too closely.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 7:59 a.m. on Dec. 31 along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Scott E. Hopkins, 31, of Albrightsville, was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 truck westbound and at a speed that was unreasonable for road conditions when he lost control. The vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole along the berm.

Hopkins was not injured but the Dodge was towed.

He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A crash occurred at 2:31 a.m. on Jan. 1 along Route 715, in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Matthew C. Aiello, 30, of Brodheadsville, was driving a 2021 Jeep Wrangler southbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the road and struck a tree, then rolled over. Aiello was extricated from the vehicle by West End Fire Company volunteers and flown by medical helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest.
