State police at Frackville report on crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes:

• A crash was reported at 4:06 p.m. on Jan. 1 along Interstate 81 in Delano Township. Troopers said Jenny I. Acosta, 21, of Berwick, was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry when it left the road and struck the guide rail. Acosta was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.

She was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• Another crash was reported on Interstate 81 on Jan. 1 at 4:59 p.m. in Ryan Township. Troopers said Daniel N. Brosnan, 58, of Syracuse, New York, was driving a 2014 BMW X1 northbound when he lost control of the vehicle was attempting to pass another vehicle. The BMW slid off the road on the left side and hit an embankment.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

• A crash was reported along I-81 in Delano Township on Jan. 1 at 4:10 p.m. Daniel A. Giles, 28, of Chaumont, New York, was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee southbound and said he lost control of his vehicle due to freezing rain/and ice conditions. The vehicle went onto the right berm and entered a ditch and then hit a large rock.

Giles was not injured but the vehicle was towed.

• A crash occurred at 11:20 p.m. on Jan. 3 along Mahanoy City Road (also known at “the Pottsy” in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Edward T. Wilner, 30, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound when he failed to negotiate a left hand curve. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck trees along an embankment. The vehicle came to rest 30 feet down the embankment.

Wilner was not injured but passengers Beatrice D. Perez, 27, of Delano, and Danielle M. Miller, 27, of Mahanoy City, were both taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville, for suspected minor injuries. Wilner was cited for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:34 p.m. on Jan. 3 along Route 54 in Ryan Township. Troopers said Sarah M. Dziczek, 25, of Frackville, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Impala eastbound when she lost control due to snow and ice conditions on the road. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck an embankment. Dziczek was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed. She was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• A crash occurred at 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 3 along I-81 in Foster Township. Austin J. Horst, 25, of Endicott, New York, was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram truck northbound as a snowstorm moved through the area. Horst lost control of the truck which spun counterclockwise 180 degrees, continued north and went onto the berm and entered a ditch, then impacted with an embankment.

Horst was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed. He was cited for the crash.

• A crash was reported at 2:59 p.m. on Jan. 3 along Route 309 in Rush Township. Troopers said Jodi L. Olesh, 53, of Coaldale, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban southbound and attempting to negotiate a slight left-hand curve when she began to lose control. The vehicle left the road and struck a dirt embankment on the right side.

Olesh was not injured but the vehicle sustained disabling damages and was towed.

• A crash occurred at 9:39 p.m. on Dec. 30 along I-81 in Ryan Township. Michael B. Giacobbe, 25, of Hegins, was driving a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander southbound when he struck a deer that entered the road in front of him. Giacobbe and his 2-year old male passenger were not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

• Another crash on I-81 in Mahanoy Township occurred at 7:25 p.m. on Dec. 29. John J. Stefanelli, 65, of West Pittston, Luzerne County, was driving a 2010 Honda Civic northbound when his vehicle veered onto the west shoulder. He attempted to steer back but overcompensated with the vehicle crossing both northbound lanes and then striking a dirt embankment along the east side of the road.

Stefanelli and his passenger, Janice L. Stefanelli, 63, same address, were not injured. He was cited for the crash.
