St. John Neumann holds online Day of Giving

St. John Neumann Regional School in both Palmerton and Slatington held its first online Day of Giving on Tuesday.

By the close of the day, the total raised by the Day of Giving was $11,440, according to Principal Mary Comensky.

Comensky said Jan. 5 was specifically chosen because it holds special meaning for the school.

“It is the feast day of our Patron Saint, St. John Neumann, former Bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia,” Comensky said. “He is recognized as the founder of the Catholic Education school system in America, along with St. Elizabeth Anne Seton.”

She said the event was held virtually on the school’s website, www.sjnrschool.org, as well as on the school’s Facebook page, which provided a link to accept PayPal donations.

Comensky said a goal of $10,000 had been set to provide financial aid to families who have enrolled at SJNRS since the COVID-19 virus began affecting the area.

Enrollment has jumped from 65 students in March to 110 at the present,” she said. “All donations received will assist families who apply for financial aid.”

Comensky noted that Awareness of the Day of Giving was in the form of several save the date notices, as well as video clips of students, faculty, staff, and parents relating why they choose SJNRS for their children.

“An interview with one of our most distinguished alumni, Retired Sgt. Major Daniel Dailey, helped to showcase the respect and values that are synonymous with SJNRS,” she said. “Thank you to our generous parents, grandparents, friends, and benefactors who support our school through prayers, love, and monetary gifts.”

Comensky said donations are still being accepted through the SJNRS Facebook page, or the can be mailed to the school at 259 Lafayette Ave, Palmerton, Pa 18071.
