One person was seriously injured Friday night in a crash near Palmerton.

The incident occurred just before midnight when a driver traveling east in Route 248 entered the exit ramp to Palmerton. The operator lost control entering the center median where the vehicle struck the center concrete divider.

The driver was ejected, flying over the 5-foot divider landing on the eastbound on ramp. The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Palmerton ambulance and Lehighton paramedics.

A Life Flight helicopter was landed at the scene although the crew boarded the ambulance and raced to the St. Luke’s hospital Lehighton campus. The Palmerton fire company assisted at the scene setting up the landing zone and shutting down the ramp.

State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident assisted by Palmerton police.
