Carbon County court — guilty pleas

Eight defendants in pending cases entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in the county court before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Chelsea Lynn Walters, 29, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded to one count each of theft and criminal trespass for an incident on April 4, 2020, in Lansford.

Police responded to a residence in the borough for a report of a female roaming around the area. Police checked out the report and left. They were called back a short time later when a homeowner found Walters in the basement of her home and a purse was missing.

Walters admitted taking the purse and entering the property. She said she was “high” on illegal drugs at the time.

Defense attorney Matthew J. Mottola, of the public defender’s office, told the court since the incident Walters entered and successfully completed two inpatient drug rehabilitation programs.

Nanovic sentenced her to serve three to one day less 24 months in prison on both counts, with the terms running concurrently, with credit for 142 days spent in the inpatient programs and paroled her.

She was also ordered to supply a DNA sample, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, make restitution of $160.60 and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use.

Michael Quinter, 52, of Bath, pleaded to one count of simple assault.

He was arrested by Nesquehoning police on Dec. 27, 2018, after a female resident of the borough reported Quinter touched her inappropriately while at her residence. The two had a prior relationship but were not involved at the time of the incident. A charge of indecent assault was dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office.

Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to supply a DNA sample, make restitution of $25 to the victim for lost wages and have no contact with her.

Joshua R. Tessitore, 36, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. In exchange for the plea two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and strangulation were dropped by the DA’s office. He was arrested on Aug. 5, 2019, in Lansford following a domestic incident with a then girlfriend.

He told Nanovic the serious charges were dropped by the DA because he thought the victim exaggerated what happened and the DA must have believed that. Tessitore said he and the female had a fight and he didn’t assault her as she claimed in the initial police report.

Nanovic imposed a fine of $300.

Nicholas Brandon McGlothlin, 30, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension.

He was arrested on Aug. 12, 2020, by Nesquehoning police following a traffic stop. Police conducted a consent search of his vehicle and found a backpack with a needle in it.

At first McGlothlin claimed the backpack was not his but when Nanovic referred to the police report which stated McGlothlin admitted he used the needle for fentanyl, he then said he would go along with the plea agreement.

Nanovic also noted McGlothlin has at least six prior driving under suspension convictions.

On the drug count Nanovic sentenced him to serve one to 18 months in prison and on the suspension charge a mandatory 30 days in jail, with the terms running concurrently.

He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and pay a fine of $1,000 on the suspension charge.

He will begin the jail term at 4 p.m. on Feb. 12 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends. Nanovic said the delay in the start of the prison term was due to COVID-19 issues at the prison.

Pamela Joan Hunsicker-Sterling, 66, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of retail theft, as a felony 3. She was charged by Mahoning Township police for an incident on Aug. 20, 2020, at the Walmart store. She stole $9.53 worth of merchandise. She is currently an inmate in the county prison on a probation violation petition and has another pending theft charge. Her plea was via video from the prison.

Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to make restitution to Walmart for $9.53, supply a DNA sample and get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.

Jason Michael Mika, 41, of Wilkes-Barre, pleaded to one count of retail theft. He was arrested by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store on July 19, 2020, for stealing $47.81 worth of merchandise. His plea was also done by video from the county prison where he is being held on a parole violation.

Nanovic sentenced him to serve 60 days to 18 months in prison and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Christina Lynn Matlock, 40, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange for the plea two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance were dropped.

She was arrested on Oct. 8, 2019, by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop.

Nanovic placed her on probation for six months on the paraphernalia charge and imposed a fine of $250 on the marijuana count. She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Shamika Lawrence, 38, of Brooklyn, New York, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct. She was arrested on June 8, 2019, by Lansford police following an incident in the borough. In exchange for the plea, charges of obstructing the administration of law and false identification to law enforcement were dropped by the DA’s office.

Nanovic placed her on probation for six months and ordered she get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee if on parole or probation.
