Pa. 2-day virus total is 16,967
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported there were 9,253 new cases, in addition to 7,714 new cases reported Friday for a two-day total of 16,967 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 657,292.
There are 5,624 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 1,172 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. The trend in the 14-day moving average of

As of 11:59 p.m., Thursday, there were 236 new deaths and as of 11:59 p.m., Friday, there were 25 new deaths reported for a total of reported for a total of 16,239 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 54,151 resident cases of COVID-19, and 9,812 cases among employees, for a total of 63,963 at 1,476 distinct facilities in all 67 counties. Out of our total deaths, 9,004 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. Approximately 19,400 of our total cases are among health care workers.
Pennsylvania hospitals began receiving shipments of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine the week of Dec. 14 and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine the week of Dec. 21.
Through Jan. 1, 128,800 doses of the vaccine have been administered.
Locally, Carbon County has 132 new cases over two days, bringing the total to 2,912. Deaths remain at 90.
Lehigh County has 21,107 cases to date, a two-day increase of 759. Eight new deaths were reported for a total of 511.
In Luzerne County, there are 17,317 cases, reflecting an increase of 503. There are 468 deaths to date.
Monroe County added 241 new cases over two days, for a total of 6,344. Deaths are at 205, after three more were reported.
In Northampton County, 613 new cases were reported, bringing the running total to 16,648. Seven more deaths were reported for a total of 438 to date.
Schuylkill County has 8,311 cases, an increase of 494 cases. There are 248 deaths, an increase of three.
