Jim Thorpe yard is a must-see for the holidays

Bill Lindermuth’s home at 819 Center St. in Jim Thorpe has become a must-see attraction.

“It keeps getting bigger every year; get a little bit of this, a little bit of that,” Lindermuth said about the bright-colored lights and figurines. “You get more stuff over time.”

Lindermuth, who said he usually begins the process in November when the weather isn’t quite so cold, estimated it takes him about a month-and-a-half to decorate.

“I do it by myself; I do it off and on,” he said. “I just slap them up, Santa Claus, reindeer, tree, no special way.”

Lindermuth said he’s been decorating for the past five-plus years.

“If I can just make one person a little happier over the holidays,” he said. “That’s why I do it.”

Lindermuth explained the secret to his success.

“My wife, Lynn McGavin, goes to yard sales and she comes home with a snowman that somebody wanted to sell for a $1,” he said. “I can fix that, things that are broken.”

As his masterpiece has continued to grow, plenty of compliments have abounded over the years, Lindermuth said.

“I have lot of friends; I golf with a lot of people who drive by,” he said. “A lot of good neighbors I have, they say, “Boy, that’s nice, and they appreciate it.”

Lindermuth said he gets gratification knowing he has warmed the hearts of people who take in his colorful décor.

“I just enjoy the holidays,” he said. “Setting these lights up just to help make somebody’s holiday.”
