Lehighton garbage/recycling collection announcement

Lehighton’s new garbage contract with Tamaqua Transfer will go into effect Jan. 10.

Tamaqua Transfer will start distributing new garbage toters during the week of Dec. 28, and will begin distribution on the west side of town and continue over a two-to-three-week period.

Each household will receive a 95-gallon toter unless a smaller container is requested. Contact the borough office at 610-377-4002, ext. 211, or email secretary@lehightonborough.com to request a smaller container.

County Waste will collect their garbage toters on their last pickup on Jan. 8. Any missed toters will be picked up on Jan. 9.

Garbage and recycling pickup will be on Tuesdays. Residents are asked to put toters out on Monday night for Tuesday pickup as the hauler starts at 3 a.m.

For those who do not receive a toter by the time Tamaqua Transfer starts, garbage bags can be placed out for collection.

The recycling toters have been provided by the borough, and they will not be exchanged.

There will be no tire recycling event with this contract.

Each household will only be allowed to put out one toter of garbage under the new contract. One bulk item per week is allowed. No construction material of any kind will be accepted.

The borough asks residents for their patience as the transition will take time. The borough will do its best to update its website, www.lehightonborough.com and Facebook as soon as new information becomes available.

Tamaqua Transfer can be reached at 570-668-4515 or 866-337-1007 to report any garbage/recycling misses starting on Jan. 12.

A holiday pickup calendar will be distributed in the near future.
