State police at Fern Ridge report on crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes:

• Two people suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 5:20 p.m. Dec. 12 on Route 534 in Penn Forest Township.

Police identified the victims as Micah B. Jones, 20, of Pen Argyl, the driver, and Cody A. Lucca, 21, of Wind Gap, a passenger. Lucca was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital - Lehighton.

Police said Jones was driving a 2011 BMW eastbound when he lost control of the vehicle while rounding a curve. It veered onto the right shoulder of the road and struck a tree, causing disabling damages. The car was towed from the scene.

Jones was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.

The Lehighton Ambulance Association and Penn Forest Fire Company No. 1 responded to the scene.

• Police cited Zahir K. Dunell, 25, of Wilkes-Barre, for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 8:28 p.m. Dec. 9 on Huron Road in Penn Forest Township.

Police said he was driving a 2016 Audi A3 southbound when he failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection with Delaware Drive, traveled off the road and struck a tree.

Dunell sustained suspected minor injuries but did not require a medical transport, police said.

• Kristin D. Cox, 33, of Jim Thorpe, is facing charges of driving while her operating privilege is suspended after a crash at 8:26 a.m. Dec. 10 on the Merwinsburg Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said she was driving a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder east when it traveled over a patch of ice. Police said Cox lost control of the vehicle, left the road and hit a guide wire, spun around and then struck a residence.

The Pathfinder was towed from the scene.

Cox was not injured.

• Michael F. Cavanagh, 25, of Effort, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 6:48 p.m. Dec. 8 on Toll Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was driving a 2010 Toyota Matrix southbound when it crashed into a tree on the left side of the road. The vehicle sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene.

Police said Cavanagh was cited for the crash.
