State police at Lehighton report on area crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes:

• Bruce R. Fichter, 68, and Kathleen M. Fichter, 64, of Kunkletown, were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 11:28 a.m. Dec. 9 on the Forest Inn Road in Towamensing Township.

They were transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Lehighton, by the Palmerton Community Ambulance Association. The severity of their injuries was not known.

The crash happened when Vashty F. Cooper, 33, of Walnutport, driving a 2020 BMW northbound, lost control of the vehicle. Police said it slid counterclockwise and then clockwise before crossing onto the southbound land where it was struck by a 2010 Ford Explorer driven by Bruce Fichter. Cooper and a passenger, a 14-year-old girl from Walnutport, were uninjured.

Police said Cooper was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.

• Alexander J. Oberg, 26, of Kunkletown, suffered minor injuries when a 1998 Jeep Cherokee he was driving went out of control and overturned.

Police said the crash happened at 10:57 a.m. Dec. 9 on Route 534, Scenic Drive, in Polk Township.

Police said Oberg was traveling north and as he attempted to slow down, the vehicle began to fishtail, crossed the opposite lane, struck a tree at the side of the road and came to rest on its passenger’s side.

Police said Oberg was transported from the scene by the West End Fire Company and Rescue Squad.

He was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.

• Police said a 2017 Kia Sorento slid on the snow-covered road of Rolling Hills Road, Ross Township at 12:28 p.m. Dec. 9.

Police said the car was traveling down a hill when it went out of control due to the snow on the road. The vehicle traveled into the opposite lane and crashed into a 2008 Ford E350.

Both vehicles were damaged but the damages were non-disabling, police said. No injuries were reported. Names were not released.

• Micah A. Owen, 18, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 12:55 p.m. Dec. 8 on Blue Mountain Drive, Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said the severity of his injuries is unknown. He was transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Lehighton, by the Lehighton Ambulance Association.

Police said he was driving a 2004 Dodge Caravan northbound when he lost control going around a curve and hit a guide rail on the north side of the road and came to rest facing east in the northbound lane of travel.

Police said the Caravan sustained disabling damages.

Owen was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, police said.
