Schuylkill reports 3 inmate virus cases

Three more inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Schuylkill County Prison.

Doreen Kutzler, interim human resources director, said Tuesday the county was notified.

“At this time, inmates within the same cellblock are in quarantine. The prison is conducting extensive testing, maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, and practicing consistent hand hygiene. Also, no additional staff or other inmates are currently exhibiting symptoms,” Kutzler said.

Additional information was not provided.

William E. Baldwin, prison board chairman, was unavailable for comment.

Wednesday, Warden David Wapinsky said the prisoner who had previously been diagnosed with the virus had recovered.

“They are now through their 21-day quarantine, showing no symptoms, and as of right now we are clear,” Wapinsky said last week.

Visitation of inmates has not been permitted since the start of the pandemic.
