Pedestrian struck in Nesquehoning

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street in Nesquehoning Monday evening.

According to Nesquehoning police, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Mermon Avenue and Catawissa Street at 5 p.m. for a reported motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

It was reported that a Kia Forte turned from West Catawissa onto Mermon when a pedestrian was attempting to cross Mermon.

Police said that the pedestrian was not using the designated crosswalk and the driver did not see the person as they turned.

Police determined the vehicle was traveling at approximately 3-5 mph at the time of the crash. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest for evaluation.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the department at 570-669-9111 and speak with Detective Richard Neikam, the investigating officer.
