Mahoning Township revisits potential construction of new municipal building

Mahoning Township has revisited the potential construction of a new municipal building.

Supervisors on Wednesday discussed the possibility of checking into a lot on Route 443.

However, board Chairman Bruce Steigerwalt said he did not want to move the township hall away from the township garages.

But, Supervisor David Pollock noted, “It doesn’t cost anything to take a look.”

As the board debated over whether it was worth pursuing and taking a look at the offered lot, Supervisor Robert Slaw added, “What do we need with 14 acres?”

Pollock said they could do anything with the land.

It was later added that possible swampland within the 14 acres could be an issue as well.

A new building has been a topic of discussion for years.

In March, supervisors said that a new structure would probably be erected near the existing one on Mahoning Drive East.

The township’s current building was constructed in the 1960s. It’s cut in half, with the supervisors’ meeting area on one side and Mahoning’s police force on the other.
