Stephen Lukach Jr., the former Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts who was sentenced to prison in October, is inquiring about the end date of his pension.
First Assistant County Solicitor Glenn Roth said at Wednesday’s retirement board meeting that at issue are pension payments from April through August 2019.
Roth said the payments were stopped when the U.S. Attorney’s office filed charges against Lukach. Roth would not release a copy of the letter Lukach wrote in November.
“It is less than the amount he owes the county in restitution,” he said of the amount.
Roth said the office is reviewing the request and the law.
“We hope to have a resolution in the near future,” he told commissioners.
Lukach was sentenced to 27 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count each of mail fraud and falsifying records in his previous position with the county.
A federal grand jury indicted Lukach July 18, 2018, on 21 counts that included mail and wire fraud and falsification of records. The investigation started when former Schuylkill County Controller Christy Joy’s office conducted an audit of the office. Lukach resigned in 2014.
He is serving his sentence at U.S. Penitentiary Canaan, Wayne County.
His release date is listed as Oct. 17 2022, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website
